As a christian, I am naturally around other christians and it baffles me to run into many that almost seem opposed to people looking to make more money. It does not help that lots of scams happen online. I would even go as far as to say that one of the many reasons I started this blog is to battle this belief that anyone looking to make an extra income and trying to do it online is a bad thing. Sure, there are bad practices, sure there are scams and many unethical ways of making money, but just because there are bad examples or experiences does not mean its all bad. There are also those that are critical of the prosperity gospel, AS THEY SHOULD BE. Nevertheless, just because there are bad teachings on making money does not mean we should all not look into making more with the right intent. As a pastor I heard once put it, there are also bad teachings of heaven, but we all still want to go there.

So I have decided to have a section that still falls inline with expanding our in earnings, but will be more focused on the christian biblical thought behind it and this will be the first article on that. This post will be talking about making money online while being a christian and doing everything in our ability to align it with God’s vision and intent.

I understand the importance of aligning my career or my business with my faith and the talents I believe God has given me. It always and should begin with deep introspection and prayer, two fundamental practices for anyone striving to find their calling. I’ve experienced firsthand that when I take the time to look within and talk to God, I often find clarity about my strengths and the areas where I can contribute the most. This does not always come easy for many people and sometimes, like in my case on many occasions, you may not get the entire picture, but you still have to step out in faith.

It’s not just a solo endeavor, thank goodness. I actively seek feedback from my trusted church community, trusted friends, and trusted family. They serve as mirrors, reflecting talents and skills I might have overlooked or underestimated. And here’s something crucial: Listening to others also helps me stay humble and receptive to God’s direction, which is fundamental as a Christian. The bible does say in Proverbs 11:14:

Where there is no guidance, a people fall, but in an abundance of counsellors there is safety

I love this verse because it basically advices that we are seeking advice, input etc from trusted people around us to grant us more clarity.

Developing talents or skills that will help you with earning more is a continuous journey; it doesn’t end with identification. I personally have invested in training and education to enhance my skill set, and I practice diligently. This is the case with every other profession in the world, so it should not be different when trying to make extra income online. This isn’t just about personal gain; it’s about improving my ability to serve others meaningfully, which ultimately brings glory to God. When I work with this purpose in mind, the money I earn online not only sustains me; it becomes a tool for positive influence.

This perspective on work and talent is seamless with the notion of Christian entrepreneurship. That’s my next step, and perhaps yours as well. Building a business online isn’t just about profits; it’s about creating a legacy that reflects God’s love and care for the world.

Faithful Foundations: Christian Entrepreneurship as a Path to Prosperity

I believe that for us as Christians, our businesses can be a profound testament to our faith. When I started my own online venture, I embraced the idea that a business rooted in faith should shine with integrity, fairness, and transparency. These aren’t just attractive buzzwords; they reflect the character of God and, therefore, should characterize our businesses.

Navigating the waters of entrepreneurship often requires more than just shrewd tactics and strategies; it demands spiritual discernment. I try to make it a habit to pause and seek guidance through prayer before significant business decisions because I’ve seen firsthand how seeking God’s wisdom can (and in most cases will) steer an enterprise toward success. It’s important to remember that every decision can and should honor Him and echo the values of His Kingdom. I will admit though, that I have not mastered this yet and sometimes I fall into the habit of jumping right in and then informing God about it. Please make every effort to limit or eliminate this and do it the proper way of seeking God’s wisdom first. It will save you a lot of mistakes, pitfalls etc.

The biblical foundation for entrepreneurship isn’t just historical; it’s prescriptive. Creativity, serving others, trusting God, and glorifying Him are recurring themes in scripture that inform how we run our businesses. In fact, by embodying these principles, Christian entrepreneurs can lead by example, crafting innovative solutions to serve their customers and creating a positive work environment that reflects God’s love. With the way the world is nowadays, I really believe more and more Christians should become entrepreneurs as well just so as to show the world the right way.

Just as scripture encourages us to be ‘salt and light’ in the world, I aim to infuse these qualities into my business practices, setting an example that influences others. What sets Christian entrepreneurs apart isn’t just the success of their businesses, but the witness they bear to God’s faithfulness throughout their entrepreneurial journey. Everything we do as christians should honour God.

Serving Through Skills: Embracing Freelancing and Consulting as a Christian

The world of freelancing and consulting offers a dynamic way to employ your talents while maintaining a strong adherence to your Christian ethics. This path isn’t just about independence; it’s about aligning your work-life balance in a way that prioritizes your values and spiritual commitments.

Many Christian professionals find fulfillment in the freedom that freelancing provides. You can choose projects that align with your beliefs and offer your expertise to those who value it most. Writers, designers, web developers, and consultants are just some of the fields in which your skills can shine brightly in service to others. Basically, if you have a gift that you have identified, it can be used in service to others. As a matter of fact, is that not one of the reasons God has given us gifts? to use to server others thereby bring him glory?

Yet, this arena isn’t without its hurdles. Income fluctuates, which can test your faith in God’s provision. It can feel isolating at times, without the camaraderie of a regular workplace. And self-discipline? It’s vital. As a freelancer or consultant, you must manage time wisely, a practice that itself can be a spiritual discipline.

Despite these challenges, the rewards can be profound. Not only do you get the satisfaction of helping others, but you also have the opportunity to witness about your faith through ethical business practices. It’s a mission field ripe with opportunities for those called to serve in this way.

Investment with a Conscience: Financial Stewardship for the Christian Online Earner

As I explore the intersection of faith and finance, I’ve found that the way I handle money can be a profound expression of my beliefs. For Christians making money online, it’s about more than just accumulation; it’s about stewardship and aligning investments with our values. This principle guides me towards socially responsible investing. It’s a way to ensure that my investments support companies that operate ethically and in alignment with Christian morals.

Starting this journey early, and staying consistent with it, are strategies rooted in wisdom. Time is a powerful ally in growing wealth, mirroring the biblical teaching of patience leading to blessings. Regular, disciplined contributions to investment accounts can result in significant growth over the years, proving the merits of patience and faith. Read Proverbs 13:11:

“Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it”

that speaks about gathering little by little which results in increase. I don’t know about you, but the book of Proverbs has a lot of nuggets that when applied to business and entrepreneurship can make a ton of difference.

Diversification is more than just a financial strategy; it’s a principle I see reflected in Scripture. Just as wisdom is found in a multitude of counselors, safety and success can be found in a variety of investments. Spreading out risk across different assets can be a responsible way to manage the resources God has entrusted to me (Ecclesiastes 11:1)

Even if my knowledge of the financial markets is limited, I seek wisdom from those more experienced. I look to financial advisors and mentors, ideally those who understand the importance of aligning investment practices with Christian values. Their guidance helps me navigate the complex world of investments while staying true to my faith.

Again and this is really important, I want to stress that the goal is not just personal wealth, but the ability to use financial resources to carry out God’s work. Proper management of money can lead to opportunities to give, to serve, and to invest in ways that have eternal impact. With that mindset, I move into the next part of this journey, which is understanding how to translate financial success into meaningful contributions to the world.

Beyond Profit: Using Your Online Earnings for Kingdom Impact

It’s important for me, and perhaps for you too, to recognize that our pursuit of making money online isn’t just about personal gain. As Christians, we’ve been entrusted with resources that we’re called to steward for a greater purpose. Sharing the fruits of our labor with those in need reflects the heart of the gospel and connects us more deeply with the mission of Christ.

I encourage you to research carefully before giving. I always start with giving to my church family. That’s where I am most connected and have far more transparency on how the funds are being used. Outside the immediate church family, find organizations with a proven track record of making real changes in people’s lives. Transparency, accountability, and alignment with gospel values are non-negotiable when deciding where to channel your financial support.

Impact investing is another powerful way to make a difference. Rather than simply giving donations, consider investing in ventures that not only provide a financial return but also contribute positively to society. It’s an approach that mirrors the parable of the talents, where we’re urged to grow what’s been entrusted to us and serve others at the same time.

Lastly, never underestimate the power of prayer. Beyond financial support, your prayers for the success and guidance of charities and missions embody the love and concern we’re meant to show as followers of Jesus. Your online success, when used as a catalyst for good, can become a profound testimony of your faith.
